Waldorf / Steiner

An education that honours childhood as a journey through distinct developmental stages. Creativity, rhythm and the arts weave through every subject. Learning follows the seasons, stories carry deep meaning, and academic content is introduced gradually as the child is ready.

What Spark helps you capture

These are the learning areas Spark will help you log, reflect on, inspire activity ideas around, and include in your portfolio.

Eurythmy

Expressive movement and gesture as a core part of language, music and social development. A practice to restore inner balance.

Artistic work

Watercolour painting, form drawing, modelling and crafts woven into every subject — not just a separate lesson.

Storytelling

Oral storytelling and fairy tales as the primary learning for language, imagination and a sense of wonder in early childhood.

Handwork

Knitting, weaving, woodwork and sewing. Develops patience, fine motor skills and enjoyment of making things by hand.

Seasonal rhythms

Learning anchored to the cycles of the natural year.

Music and singing

Daily singing, recorder and orchestral instruments. Music as a central thread running through the whole day.

Drama and speech

Drama and speech as tools for language development, confidence and self-expression.

Maths

Mathematics taught through pattern, rhythm and form drawing before abstraction. Number as something felt and seen.

Foreign languages

Foreign languages introduced through song and play from an early age.

Gardening

Practical gardening skills connecting children to food, the seasons and the living world.

Main lesson blocks

Subjects taught in three to four week immersive blocks. Deep, unhurried engagement with one topic at a time.

Nicola · home educating mum, Surrey

“The activity suggestions are absolutely brilliant — they've helped give us so many ideas without having to go down any Google or Pinterest rabbit-holes!”

Alice · home educating mum, Gloucestershire

“Simple enough that I actually use it. That's rarer than it sounds.”

Meg · home educating mum, Edinburgh

“The portfolio feature alone is worth it. What used to take me a whole weekend now only takes a few minutes.”

Tom · home educating dad, Bristol

“My daughter asks to add things herself now. Seeing her own learning reflected back at her has done something really lovely for her confidence.”

Andrea · home educating mum, Norfolk

“I didn't have a word for what our learning style was. The quiz suggested Charlotte Mason, and not only does it fit what we were already doing — it's made us so much more intentional with how we approach our days.”
